I adore this pic and this fic - a subversion of the “Enjolras gets drunk and loses faith” trope, it’s “Enjolras gets drunk and is even MORE emphatically Republican.”

As a sidenote on the previous post— I am not an inspiring figure, for which reason nobody ever asks me what inspires me, but if I were to be asked what keeps on me on track in terms of doing what I do (being: to be an overenthusiastic failure of a literary scholar and a wearer of fool-hardy waistcoats), Adam and the Ants’ unspeakably commercial AND YET AND YET Prince Charming album would be right up there with Théophile Gautier’s journalism.
I LOVE ADAM AND THE ANTS. I just love how unapologetically into they are running around in period trousers and eyeliner making nonsense sounds.

For those of you who have given up wading through the dreck on FFNet, there is some AWESOME new fic up there. Amarguerite has posted a brief and utterly gorgeous fic which gives us glimpses of a very young and adorable Courfeyrac through to the Courfeyrac we know and love. My favourite part is the account of how a girl he knows acquired a new riding hat, but no more for fear of spoilers!

This is so lovely! I am always happy to be the recipient of Courfeyracs, and this one has such a wonderful cat-ate-the-cream expression I want to pet his wonderfully drawn curls.
One of my very favourite Enjolras childhood fics. Orestes Fasting/Marianne/10LittleBullets engages with the scholarly side of Enjolras’ development, which delighted me to no end as it is sometimes neglected in favour of the warrior. The family background she develops works so well within the context of the era - it’s original, but there are recognisable elements in it from other biographies of the time. And Enjolras’ path to his convictions is fascinating, given that the trigger is his historical reading coupled with his observations.
And Courfeyrac arrives on the scene in this wonderful, dynamic way to add the perfect additional element.
Seconding the rec! The narrative voice is really wonderfully Hugolian and I just adore actualschoolboy!Enjolras and actualschoolboy!Courfeyrac.
